Sail4th 250 commemorative medallion shines with symbolism

Sail4th 250 New York and APMEX, the nation’s leading online rare-coin and bullion retailer, have unveiled a stunning commemorative medallion for America’s 250th birthday celebration.

Available in copper, silver and gold, the medallion design reaches deep into American symbolism as it celebrates the patriotic milestone. The obverse depicts America’s Tall Ship, the Coast Guard cutter Eagle, leading the international flotilla into New York Harbor. The Statue of Liberty rises on her left, holding a torch aloft. The inscription reads: “The Port of New York and New Jersey and the USA welcome the Tall Ships of the World in Honor of America’s Semiquincentennial.” The reverse depicts Columbia, the female personification of the United States, who predates Lady Liberty.  An American bald eagle soars overhead, with its wings spread in both a defensive and commanding posture. The inscription along the rim reads “Semiquincentennial of the United States of America – Freedom – Hope – Opportunity” with the dates 1776-2026.

The medallions are available through the APMEX website, on the Sail4th.org  website, and will be sold onsite during the tall ships’ visit to New York from July 3-7.

Noted numismatic artist Joel Iskowitz designed the piece. It was the last coin he designed;  he passed away on April 23, 2026.
